Over the month of October three Glanbia Ireland / Teagasc Future Farmers are hosting farm walks.

Numbers will be limited at this event in line with government Covid-19 guidelines and pre-registration is essential. Please use the relevant links above to register.

 

The first farm walk takes place in Skeoughvasteen, Co. Kilkenny on Cathal Moran’s farm. Cathal is a farmer participant in the Teagasc/Glanbia Future Farm Programme and is farming 177Ha in Co. Kilkenny. In 2019, he milked 328 cows with 100 replacement units. His plan is to increase this to 390 cows and near 100 replacement units. The calving interval is 367 days and the six week calving rate is 93%.

 

The following Friday, October 8, Future Farmer will host his farm walk in Gortnahoe, Co. Tipperary. John and his father Tom are farming 70 Ha near Gortnahoe, Co.Tipperary. In 2019, they milked 138 cows and reared 30 replacement units. The overall stocking rate is 2.3 LU/ Ha and the milking platform stocking rate is 4 cows/Ha.

 

The third and final Future Farm walk of the series takes place in Co. Cork on Jack. Jack along with his parents Larry and Annette are farming 78Ha in Rathcormac, Co. Cork. In 2019 they milked 140 cows and had 40 replacement units. The plan is to milk 150 cows and rear 35 heifers. The calving interval is 376 days with a 91% six week calving rate.
