Tirlan in conjunction with Teagasc invite you to the first of our joint programme farm walks of 2024.

Time: 11am

On the 27th of March 2024 from 11am – 1pm, John Ryan, one of the Future Farm Participant will host a farm walk to discuss his breeding programme and key learnings.

John will discuss his breeding management plan for the coming year and his learnings to date throughout the programme. There will be talks provided on the day in relation to selecting dairy and beef sires, cow selection, sexed semen as well as animal nutrition.

About John Ryan

John is milking 150 cows with the help of his father Tom in Gorthnahoe Co Tipperary. In 2023 john produced 522 kgMS/cow. John hopes to increase this further through better genetics, maturity of the herd and grass.

At the Farm Walk you will have the opportunity to meet with Teagasc experts as well as the Tirlán’s Beef Twenty20 and FarmGen teams. Representatives from Dovea Genetics who will also be there to discuss the programmes and any questions that you may have.

The Living Proof Future Farm Programme

The joint Living Proof Future Farm Programme involves 11 farmers from across the Tirlán catchment area. The five-year programme is part of the wider Signpost farmers for climate action programme, it continues to demonstrate best practices in delivering economical and environmental improvements on the participating family farms.
