Tirlán March milk price 43.08 cpl

Dairy

Tirlán will pay a total of 43.08 cent per litre (cpl) (including VAT) for March creamery milk supplies at 3.6% butterfat and 3.3% protein.

The price includes a Weather Payment of 3 cpl (including VAT) that will be paid on all milk volumes supplied in March that meet quality criteria.

The March milk price consists of the following:

  • Base milk price of 39.58 cpl (including VAT), an increase of 1 cpl;
  • A 3 cpl Weather Payment on all March milk volumes in recognition of the exceptionally challenging weather. This payment will also be made on March milk volumes in the Liquid Milk, Autumn Calving and Fixed Milk Price Schemes;
  • Sustainability Action Payment of 0.5 cpl (including VAT) to all qualifying suppliers.

The base price, Weather Payment and Sustainability Action Payment will be adjusted to reflect the actual constituents of milk delivered by suppliers.

The Tirlán total price for March creamery milk, based on LTO constituents of 4.2% butterfat and 3.4% protein, is 46.79 cpl (including VAT).

Tirlán Chairperson John Murphy said: “While dairy markets are generally stable, the Board is acutely aware of the severe challenges facing our milk suppliers this season as wet ground conditions make grazing very difficult. The March rainfall total at weather stations in the south east was around twice the long term average, with April rainfall to date already exceeding the normal monthly average.

“This is having a significant impact on our milk supply and creating very challenging conditions for farmers, with yields per cow subdued as herds approach peak supply. We have provided support to our dairy farmers, including a Feed rebate of €30 per tonne, interest-free credit on fertilizer purchases and our 3 cpl Weather Payment for March milk. In addition, our milk suppliers can avail of an optional 5 cpl Milk Advance Payment Scheme to provide a boost to their cashflow.”

Weather Support Package

In addition to the 3 cpl Weather Payment, the other elements of the Weather Support package announced by Tirlán Co-op on 8 April are as follows:

  • The establishment of a Tirlán Milk Advance Payment Scheme, which will offer cashflow support to milk suppliers. The Milk Advance Payment Scheme is a voluntary scheme offering milk suppliers an advance on future milk payments of 5 cpl (based on March milk volumes). The Advance Payment, which will be made to the trading accounts of participating milk suppliers, will offer approximately €3,000 of interest-free cashflow support to an average milk supplier and will be set off against actual milk payments due over the peak months of May, June and July of 2025. Application forms can now be downloaded from the MyAccount section of tirlanfarmlife.com;
  • Tirlán is supporting its milk suppliers with a €30 per tonne GAIN dairy feed rebate. First introduced on 15 March, this rebate applies on all GAIN dairy feed delivered to eligible Tirlán milk suppliers up until 27 April 2024;
  • An extension of the Fertilizer Credit Scheme to the end of May – this offer of interest-free credit on fertilizer purchases normally ends in March;
  • An increase in the proportion of milk payment made as an early interim payment from 50% to 60% for April milk paid in May to boost cashflow.
